The bay features a gently sloping sandy bottom that leads across a central seagrass meadow, where green turtles regularly feed and, with some luck, a dugong may appear. Fringing reefs on the northern and southern sides frame the bay with healthy hard and soft coral gardens. Thanks to minimal current and good visibility, Marsa Assalaya is ideal for relaxed training dives, easy shore dives and longer, unhurried reef explorations along the outer edges.
